Powder Girl of the Day: Octavia Butler

A NovelOctavia Butler was one of the few African-American Sci Fi writers in existence. Some of her ideas were damn near game changing for me. I read Wild Seed when I was about 19 and have been hooked ever since. I just knew I would meet this powderful woman, but she unfortunately passed away in February of 2006.

She generously gave her time and energy to writers and to combating racism Here is a link to a couple of websites about her: http://www.sfwa.org/members/butler/ and http://octaviabutler.net/This link is for the Octavia Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund for budding writers of color. Octavia Butler attended The Clarion Writers Workshop in 1970. This scholarship makes it possible for others to do the same. http://www.carlbrandon.org/butlerscholarship/ Octavia Butler will always be one of my favorite Powder Girls. Rock on!
